Independent Reformer wants change now

Tara-area farmer Bill Cook has submitted the necessary papers to the Provincial Electors Office of Ontario, and will be running in the next election as an Independent Reform candidate in the riding of Bruce Grey Owen Sound. Cook has been a member of the Federal Reform Party since its inception in 1990. Cook says it was decided in 1994 that the party would stay focused on the federal scene over provincial politics.

But he's calling the next election a crucial time for change. Cook says his motivation to run as an independent candidate stems from the various decisions by the current Progressive Conservative Party. Cook says he's disappointed with a number of issues, which range from the Eves' government's handling of Hydro, to the new Nutrient Management Legislation.

Cook says capping hydro rates was a big mistake, which will lead to the rolling blackouts California has experienced over the past two years. With hydro prices below cost, Cook says there's no incentive for anyone to use hydro conservatively. As for Bill 81, Cook says he'd like to see the new legislation rescinded.

As a farmer, Cook says he cannot understand how the government would write legislation without doing a cost-analysis study. Cook says the government has been anything but accountable to the taxpayer in this instance - particularly with no provisions made in the budget to help cover the cost of the new nutrient management directives in the near future. Cook isn't just looking for Federal Reform votes, but feels Provincial Liberals and Tories locally want reform and he feels he is the candidate that can give it to them unlike the other three worn out alternatives.
